Sponsorship Saturday: Damien and Mutesi!

Welcome to Sponsorship Saturday, where, every Saturday, I hope to share about one or more kid living in poverty and in need of sponsorship, in hopes of finding sponsors for them.

However, for Sponsorship Saturday to accomplish it’s purpose, I’ll need your help! Please share these posts so that many people can become aware of people living in poverty and hopefully take action!

And, of course, please keep the Sponsorship Saturday kids and their families in your prayers.

Please note that it is my intention to both help the kids I spotlight, by spreading the word about their needs, and how others can help, and also, to honor the individuals I’m advocating for in my wording and the info I mention here. If you see anything that I’ve missed, or that I could do better to accomplish this goal, you are welcome to let me know in the comments.

Meet precious Damien! Here’s his sponsorship page: https://www.worldvision.org/sponsor-a-child/?childItem=720104b1-79b3-43b4-aa94-08b0e8f0f3f0&backLink=grid

Adorable Damien!

Damien is 2 years old. He and his family probably speak Kinyarwanda.

Damien lives with his parents, two brothers, and two sisters in a rural region in western Rwanda, near a national park and a large lake.

Damien is not in school at this time because he is still too young. He likes to play!

Damien lives in the poorest district in the country. Nearly two-thirds of people are living in poverty. Most people in Damien’s area try to earn a living through farming crops like cassava and sweet potatoes, however, their seeds, tools, and methods are outdated, which means they often don’t get good harvests.

Many of the children are malnourished since families can’t feed their children well, and there aren’t enough health centers in this area to serve everyone. Fewer than one in five households have handwashing stations.

Schools in this area are under-resourced, with crowded classrooms and poorly trained teachers contributing to students’ low pass rates. There is low community awareness about children’s rights to be protected and to have a say in decisions that affect their lives. Sponsorship for Damien will help change these problems, both for him, and for other kids in his community.

Neither of Damien’s parents are currently employed, so sponsorship is especially important for him.

Sponsorship will help Damien and his community get better access to the services and support that will help them break out of poverty. World Vision will join existing government efforts to boost families’ livelihoods with savings groups and updated farming equipment. People will gain access to more clean water sources and sanitation facilities to help improve their health. Kids’ educations will be supported, and child protection networks will raise awareness of children’s rights to be protected and cared for. Through it all, World Vision staff will show God’s love as they serve and care for the most vulnerable families.

Damien has been waiting 2 months for a sponsor. You can sponsor him for $39 a month!

Of course, sponsorship is not for everyone, but that isn’t the only way to help. Maybe you could share? Maybe you could pray, or give a one time gift? Thanks for reading!
