Sponsorship Saturday

Sponsorship Saturday: Mardelina, Tomas, and Cardoso!

Update 11/3/2021: Mardelina Edias, Tomas Augusto, and Cardoso Alberto are all no longer available to be sponsored. They may have already been sponsored, or taken out of the sponsorship program.

Welcome to Sponsorship Saturday, where, every Saturday, I hope to share about one or more kid living in poverty and in need of sponsorship, in hopes of finding sponsors for them.

However, for Sponsorship Saturday to accomplish it’s purpose, I’ll need your help! Please share these posts so that many people can become aware of people living in poverty and hopefully take action!

And, of course, please keep the Sponsorship Saturday kids and their families in your prayers.

Please note that it is my intention to both help the kids I spotlight, by spreading the word about their needs, and how others can help, and also, to honor the individuals I’m advocating for in my wording and the info I mention here. If you see anything that I’ve missed, or that I could do better to accomplish this goal, you are welcome to let me know in the comments.

Today’s post is about three kids who live in Mozambique, and are part of World Vision’s sponsorship program!

Today I want to share sweet Mardelina Edias with you! Here’s her sponsorship page: https://www.worldvision.org/sponsor-a-child?backLink=grid&childItem=63200ffd-8c5b-4b8a-8817-a6f18a1e37df

Mardelina Edias is 4 years old. She and her family speak Makua.

She lives with her mom and step-dad in the Cava area of Memba, on the northeastern coast of Mozambique.

The rural area Where Mardelina Edias lives is forested and hot. Because of its coastal location, most people make their living fishing or trading goods. Some families grow crops like beans, peanuts, and cashews for themselves, and almost everyone lives in huts made from forest materials.

Access to roads and public services is inconsistent, and people often have to walk long distances to reach vital healthcare services. Because of a lack of clean water access, kids get sick from waterborne diseases, and families don’t have sanitation facilities or good hygiene behaviors. About a third of students leave school without good literacy skills that will set them up for future success. Because of economic conditions, parents in Cava are forced to make difficult choices for their children’s well-being, like allowing young girls to marry. And one out of five children work instead of going to school.

These factors make sponsorship important for Mardelina Edias! Sponsorship will not only assist her, but also her whole community, to break the cycle of poverty and make it a better place!

Mardelina Edias likes to play!

Sponsorship will help Mardelina Edias grow up in a safer environment. World Vision will partner with national leaders to help the community create formal child protection systems. Families will get access to birth registration along with training that helps them understand the importance of education for their children’s futures. And through it all, World Vision staff will empower vulnerable kids to live into their God-given potential.

Mardelina Edias has been waiting 56 days for a sponsor. You can sponsor her for $39 a month!

Meet Tomas Augusto! Here’s his sponsorship page: https://www.worldvision.org/sponsor-a-child?backLink=grid&childItem=a708aaee-8526-448e-9260-b38c98e3b0cb

A photo of Tomas Augusto

Tomas Augusto is a wonderful 5 year old boy who lives with his parents and two sisters in a tropical coastal region in northern Mozambique. He and his family speak Makua.

In the area that Tomas Augusto lives, families living in poverty are unable to feed or care for their kids well. There’s little access to clean water and sanitation facilities, and people’s knowledge of good hygiene habits is low. Many children don’t get registered with the government at birth, which holds them back from accessing vital services like education and healthcare throughout life. The community has very few preschools, making it harder for young kids to be set up for success when they enter school. Child marriage is common, but it perpetuates the cycle of poverty: Mothers without an education are less likely to send their own kids to school, and they’re more likely to die in childbirth or have malnourished babies. Kids who live with disabilities have limited, if any, access to education and health services, and child protection systems are weak.

These factors make sponsorship important for Tomas Augusto!

Tomas Augusto likes to play group games! He helps at home with cleaning.

Sponsorship will not only assist him, but also his whole community, to break the cycle of poverty and make it a better place!

Families will get the tools and resources to lift themselves out of poverty. As families get better access to life’s basics like clean water and healthcare, they’ll be more able to focus on loving parenting methods and supporting their kids’ educations. World Vision will help make sure vulnerable children are protected and cared for, especially through partnerships with churches. More kids will get access to birth certificates, and the community will be empowered to identify and shift harmful traditional norms like child marriage. Children living with disabilities will be supported to get the services and resources they need to thrive, and World Vision will work to strengthen family structures.

Thomas Augusto has been waiting over a year for a sponsor. You can sponsor him for $39 a month!

This is Cardoso Alberto! Here’s his sponsorship page: https://www.worldvision.org/sponsor-a-child?backLink=grid&childItem=fcf46b43-202c-4406-88e1-940dfc2539bc

A picture of Cardoso Alberto

Cardoso Alberto is 8 years old year old boy who lives his uncle in the Mazua area of Memba, on the northeastern coast of Mozambique. He and his family speak Makua.

I wanted to highlight Cardoso Alberto today because tomorrow is his birthday! What if you or someone you know could give him the birthday gift of sponsorship? It’d be a wonderful gift- in addition to helping to lift Cardoso Alberto and his family out of poverty, you can let him know that he is not forgotten, and loved even by someone who’s never met him!

The rural area where Cardoso Alberto lives is forested and hot.

Because of economic conditions, parents in Mazua are forced to make difficult choices for their children’s well-being, like allowing young girls to marry. And one out of five children work instead of going to school.

These factors mean that sponsorship important for Cardoso Alberto! Sponsorship will not only assist him, but also his whole community, to break the cycle of poverty and make it a better place!

Cardoso Alberto likes to play jumping games! He helps at home with watering plants.

Sponsorship will help Cardoso Alberto to be able to grow up in a safer environment. World Vision will partner with national leaders to help the community create formal child protection systems that keep children safe from abuses like child marriage. Families will get access to birth registration along with training that helps them understand the importance of education for their children’s futures. And through it all, World Vision staff will empower vulnerable kids to live into their God-given potential.

Cardoso Alberto has been waiting 46 for a sponsor. You can sponsor him for $39 a month!
